Philippines Missions Trip - Day 7 (Public School Ministry) Bookmark and Share

Mike Moyer and his group conducted a flag ceremony service at the Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School in La Carlotta at 7:30am. There were about 5,000 students present at the meeting. Sofronio Estelloso, a teacher at the school, contacted us in June via nvbc.org and requested we preach to his school. He saw the Missions blog from last year and wanted us to preach at his school. Bro. Moyer preached about Lazarus and the rich man and gave the Gospel. To God be the Glory, approximately 1,200 students raised their hands indicating they trusted Christ as their Savior. Dan Christians, Dan Fittro, and Tim Gomez also gave testimonies. After the main assembly, the group went to classrooms and gave the Gospel to smaller groups. The students were very receptive and many were saved in the school classrooms. After that incredible experience, they got on a jeep to meet up with Bro. Apusen’s group.

Bro. Apusen’s group went to Negros Occidental High School which is the largest school on Negros Island. It has a student body of about 15,000. We were scheduled to speak to the entire student body but our plans were changed at the last minute. Let’s just say that the Catholic church had a big influence in this school and did what they could to make sure our meeting did not happen. We were only able to gather about 300 students to the meeting but saw around 200 of those trust Christ as their Savior. Each of this converts were given a copy of the John and Romans Bible and their contact information were given to a local pastor for follow-up. We found out later that no other religious group, other than the Catholics, had ever been able to have a religious meeting in that school. The NVBC group was the very first group to do so. Praise the LORD for opening up this opportunity.

Bro. Apusen’s group then proceeded to another high school about 30 minutes away. When we arrived at the school, the principal cancelled classes and had about 700 students gather for the meeting. Some of the orchestra members of IBC were with this group and played two musical numbers before Bro. Apusen preached salvation. About 300 students were saved. As with the previous school, each of these converts were given a copy of John and Romans Bible and their contact information given to a local pastor for follow-up. The pastors doing these follow-ups are both IBC graduates.

Bro. Moyer’s and Bro. Apusen’s group met up at lunch then proceeded to the last school we will be visiting today. Grace Guillem who attended NVBC for some time a few years back has a brother who is a pastor in Bacolod area. He along with his mother lined up for our group to go from classroom to classroom presenting the Gospel to the students. We divided our group up in teams of two in order to get to as many rooms as possible in the short time that we have. In half and hour’s time, we were able to see around 700 students saved.

From 7:30am to 2:00pm with a break for lunch, we were able to see 2400 students pray to receive Christ as their Savior. It is almost unbelievable how receptive the people are in the Philippines. Many of these will receive a follow-up from a pastor and Lord-willing lead other family members to Christ as well.

Our boat to Iloilo left at 4pm and we arrived in Iloilo about an hour later. Bro. and Mrs. Martin invited us again to their home for dinner and we said our goodbyes after a delicious meal. Our flight to Manila leaves at 6:55am so we headed back to the hotel early to catch some needed rest. Until next time…
