We headed to Perias Hope Fundamental Baptist Church pastored by Bro. Felipe Hangalay at 7:00 AM today to witness and take part in this church’s opening service. It was about a 30 minute hike from the road to get to church. There were close to 100 people present. This is the first time that a group from NVBC has physically helped with the establishing of a new church in the Philippines. Pastor Hangalay just recently started conducting Bible studies in this community and today is their first official service. Kimberly Cookson did a wonderful job teaching the children a Bible lesson during Sunday School and Chris Shattuck was the guest speaker during the morning service. Chris did a great job speaking on "Having Victory in Christ", and many decisions were made.
After the morning service, Pastor Hangalay invited our delegation to his house for lunch. Mrs. Hangalay prepared a delicious meal of chicken adobe using very fresh chicken. While we were waiting for lunch we all enjoyed eating freshly cut sugar cane from the fields next to the house.
When lunch was over, we walked the trail back and rode a jeepney to the hotel to check out. We then took a 2-hour bus ride to Bacolod City where we checked into the Royal Amrei Hotel. We took 15 minutes to freshen up a bit and headed out to Village Christian Baptist Church pastored by Bro. Mark Desuyo.
There was a good crowd when we arrived waiting for their evening service. This church encouraged us greatly through their spirited and heartfelt singing. Bro. Andrew Brown preached a wonderful message on “The Benefits of Being Saved” and many decisions were made for Christ and one person trusted Christ as Savior.
After church it was back to the jeepney. We piled in and headed to the SM store for dinner at the Pizza Hut. Although the meals have been outstanding, after many meals of rice and “native” food it was a nice American-tasting change.
It has been a full and exciting day around the House of God today with many blessings. Tomorrow our day will start around 6:30 AM to conduct evangelistic service in 5 or 6 public schools. We will keep you posted on the results. Until then, please pray for us.
